چکیده

Strawberry fruit Fragaria × ananassa Duchesne, Rosaceae (cv. Romina), rich in anthocyanin polyphenols, has been demonstrated to have favorable effects on health due its antioxidant properties. The present study investigated the antigenotoxic potential of enriched fraction Romina strawberry methanolic extract (ACY) against DNA damage human peripheral blood leukocytes, induced by hydrogen peroxide vitro. Five concentrations ACY were used all experiments (2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20 µg/ml). results alkaline comet assay showed no genotoxic effect ACY. After pre-exposure leukocytes ACY, and subsequent incubation with H2O2, a decreased number damaged cells was recorded tested concentrations, compared controls. In posttreatment, there concentration-dependent reduction, while statistically significant decrease achieved 15 µg/ml concentrations. indicate that is efficient oxidative it more potent as post-applicative than protective agent.

Strawberry (cv. Romina) Methanolic Extract and Anthocyanin-Enriched Fraction Improve Lipid Profile and Antioxidant Status in HepG2 Cells

Dyslipidemia and oxidation of low density lipoproteins (LDL) are recognized as critical factors in the development of atherosclerosis. Healthy dietary patterns, with abundant fruit and vegetable consumption, may prevent the onset of these risk factors due to the presence of phytochemical compounds. Strawberries are known for their high content of polyphenols; among them, flavonoids are the majo...

Effect of famotidine on radiation induced apoptosis in human peripheral blood leukocytes

ABSTRACTBackground: Radioprotective effects of famotidine, an antagonist of H2 receptor clinically used for peptic ulcer treatment, was previously shown on radiation-induced micronuclei and chromosomal aberration in human peripheral blood lymphocytes and mouse bone marrow cells. This study was conducted to investigate radioprotective property of famotidine against radiation induced apoptosis i...

Antigenotoxic Effect of Trametes spp. Extracts against DNA Damage on Human Peripheral White Blood Cells

Trametes species have been used for thousands of years in traditional and conventional medicine for the treatment of various types of diseases. The goal was to evaluate possible antigenotoxic effects of mycelium and basidiocarp extracts of selected Trametes species and to assess dependence on their antioxidant potential. Trametes versicolor, T. hirsuta, and T. gibbosa were the species studied. ...

Radioadaptive response in peripheral blood leukocytes of occupationally exposed medical staff with investigation of DNA damage by the use of neutral comet assay

Background: ˝Radioadaptive Response˝ is well-documented phenomenon appeared in low dose ionizing radiation received in vitro and in vivo. Occupational exposure has always been a great concern for radiation workers therefore this study was performed to study radioadaptive response in terms of residual DNA double strand breaks as an endpoint in peripheral blood leukocytes of occupationally expose...
